The Bulgarian Translators' Union (BTU) is a national non-governmental guild of professionals dedicated to the creative activity of translating and interpreting.
Presently, BTU is chaired by (Ms) Antonia Pencheva, elected in October 2022.
BTU was formally founded on June 5, 1974.
BTU was registered in 2001 as an association performing public service activities, and was added to the Central Registry of the Ministry of Justice.
BTU unites all professional translators and specialists in theory of translation.
BTU has 4 sections, each for a different translation genre.
BTU shows the professionalism of its members through the work of the Translation Bureau.
BTU produces, in translation, modern and classical foreign literature, as well as works on the art and history of translation, in its unique-for-Bulgaria journal published by the Panorama.Publishing House
BTU is a member of the International Federation of Translators – FIT (Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs).
BTU is a member of the European Council of Literary Translators’ Associations – CEATL (Conseil Européen des Associations de Traducteurs Littéraires).
